Bristol Rovers picked up a point away from home as they drew 1-1 against Shrewsbury Town.

Darrell Clarke handed debuts to goalkeeper Jack Bonham who arrived from Brentford on loan and left-back Joe Martin who also arrived on loan from Stevenage. It was a very scrappy affair with either team struggling to create any real chances. Shrewsbury created the better chances with Jack Bohman saving well from Oliver Norburn and Omar Beckles.

It took a penalty to break the deadlock, Ollie Clarke was fouled in the area and former Shrewsbury striker Stefan Payne stepped up to fire home from the penalty spot.  Just minutes later new loan signing Joe Martin was sent off for a second bookable offence by the car happy referee.

Rovers were trying to hold on with the ten men, but Shrewsbury got back on level terms when Whalley’s low cross from the right was diverted into his own net by the unlucky Daniel Leadbitter.

Next up for Rovers is Plymouth Argyle at home on Saturday.
