Accrington Stanley, Who Are They?

|

Well, they are Bristol Rovers bogie team, Rovers have now lost six of the last seven games against Accrington.

Darrell Clarke handed a debut to deadline day signing Stefan Payne up top, but the new signing looked isolated throughout the game. Tom Broadbent was brought back into the heart of the Rovers defence to try and strengthen the back line, but Rovers were 1-0 down in the opening six minutes. Sean McConville saw his shot deflected home from 12 yards out.

It was a game of few chances, but Liam Sercombe did see his effort well saved on 34 minutes. Accrington nearly made it 2-0 halfway through the second have but Stanley’s Clarke saw his shot cannon back off the bar. Rovers new boy Payne got the goal he wanted, heading home James Clarke right-wing cross.  The gasheads thought we were going to grab a point, but with six minutes remaining, McConville got his and Accrington Stanley’s second to seal all three points.

After two games Rovers are pointless and sit 21st in the League One table. Next up is Crawley in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night at The Memorial Stadium.
