Brave Rovers Go Out

Bristol Rovers were knocked out of the FA cup going down 1-0 to Championshi Deby county. Derby certainly had a little help from referee Andy D’Urso who sent off Lescott which seemed a yellow card was more apropriate and also ruled out Andy Sandells 41st minute header which again seemed very harsh.

Rovers had outplayed the Championship leaders until the sending off. Ex Derby defender Steve Elliott headed straight at Stephen Bywater in the early part of the game and a slip by Darren Moore almost let in gas striker Rickie Lambert.

Bywater was then forced into acrobatic action, tipping over Walker and Igoe’s headers. Then came one of the first talking points, Andy Sandell rose to meet a corner and planted the ball into the back of the Derby net. Andy D’Urso then to the suprise of everyone ruled the goal out, a shocking decision.

Deby came out fighting in the second half and Lescott was forced to clear the ball of the line. Derby got a unexpected boast in the 70th minute when Lescott was red carded and Rovers quickly re-organised, with defender Ryan Green replacing Walker two minutes later.

Derby brought on Peschisolido for Lupoli on 16 minutes and it was the much-travelled Canadian who broke Rovers’ hearts in the 82nd minute.

Rovers defence had switched off when Seth Johnson nodded the ball forward for Peschisolido to break clear and drive a left-foot shot past Phillips from 12 yards.

Rovers forced three late corners before referee D’Urso blew the final whistle on their FA Cup campaign.

Paul Trollope can be very proud of his team and feel very unlucky not at the least force a replay.
