John Ward went into the fixture against second placed Port Vale missing Mark McChrystall and Joe Anyinsah.

So Ward recalled Ellis Harrison and Jim Paterson, Danny Woodards moved in to centre back as Clayton McDonald was not allowed to play against his parent club. It was a bright start by Rovers with Ryan Brunt and Jim Paterson both going close for the home side. Rovers took the lead on 7 minutes when striker Ryan Brunt headed home Oliver Norburns cross. Brunt added a second 30 minutes later, again it was a Norburn delivery that set up Brunt to volley home.

Tom Pope and Chris Birchill both had chances for Vale in the second half, but it was Rovers who nearly scored again. Vale keeper Chris Neal produced a magnificent save from Ellis Harrison. Brunt scored could have grabbed his hat-trick but shot over from 6 yards out.

Rovers moved up to 15th in League Two, 11 points above the relegation zone. Next up for Rovers is a home clash against Rochdale on Saturday.
