Cheltenham Town Manager Mark Yates has praised Rovers after his side lost 2-0 on Saturday and called for his fans to pump up the volume.

Rovers took around 1,500 fans to Cheltenham on Saturday to see Mark McGhee’s first game in charge. Yates said to This Is Gloucestershire “We can`t expect to just roll up and beat teams, and Bristol Rovers is a far bigger club than Cheltenham Town.

“The fans have been great this season and we didn`t give them anything, but sometimes we need them to give us a lift.

“In terms of numbers it was superb, but the Wymans crew weren`t in their usual place and all I heard was Rovers fans all day, so fair play to them.”

Before Saturdays defeat Cheltenham were unbeaten in their last 10 league games.
