Steve Elliott was installed back into the Rovers starting line up and repayed manager Paul Trollope by scoring the only goal of the game.

Rovers made their intension known early on, Lewis Haldane raced clear and hit the side-netting within the first few minutes.

16 minutes in and Centre back Steve Elliott rose to head home a Stuart Campbell corner. Haldane had a chance just before the break to put Rovers two up, but the striker again shot into the side netting after a neat one-two with Lambert.

Wycombe came out stronger in the second half and Phillips had to be alert to palm substitute Chris Palmer’s free kick around the post. It was the third win in four games for Rovers, who play Doncaster in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final at the Millennium Stadium on Sunday.

After last night’s victory, Rovers lie in 11th place, just 4 points off the play offs.
Paul Trollope
‘If we produce seven more performances like that we’ve got a chance.

‘The lads covered a lot of miles and a lot of them were out on their feet at the end, it was a very tough game.

‘We were resilient and strong and defended well and we’re very happy with the three points.’
