Darrell Clarke had Rory Gaffney back from injury and recalled the striker back into the starting line up in what otherwise would have been an unchanged side to the one that beat Mansfield 1-0 last week, although Clarke was forced into a last minute changed when Lee Mansell got injured in the warm up and was replaced by Ollie Clarke.

Rovers got off to a disastrous start when Alex Rodman scored after just two minutes. It took Rovers just 13 minutes to get back on level terms when Ollie Clarke fired home a powerful shot from the edge of the area to make it 1-1.

Chris lines was then unlucky not to put Rovers in front when put through, but Joe Day in the Newport goal was quick off his line to save well. Scott Boden then fired wide for County and Matty Taylor also fired wide for Rovers before the break.

Rovers were on top from the the start of the second half and deservedly took the lead on 55 minutes, Tom Lockyer nodded down and Cristian Montano finished well to make it 2-1. Matty Taylor then made it 3-1 after good work from sub Ollie McBurnie, Taylor shrugged off two defenders to fire home.

Rovers put the game out of reach with five minutes to go when sub Ellis Harrison picked up on a bad pass back on slotted home to make it 4-1. Rovers are up to third on goal difference after Rovers fifth win in a row. Next up is Cambridge at The Memorial Stadium on Good Friday.
