Bristol Rovers secured their first home win of the season against 10 man Northampton Town.

Midfielder Matt Gill had to pull out due a knee injury, so Eliot Richards started and Michael Smith was called on to the bench. Striker Tom Eaves nearly gave Rovers the lead on 5 minutes, but the on loan Bolton striker saw his volley tipped onto the post. Northamptons Anthony Charles saw red when he dragged down Derek Riordan midway through the first half. Rovers were again denied by the woodwork when Riordan’s free kick clipped the cross bar.

After the break Rovers went in front when Tom Eaves side footed home Eliot Richards pass. It was 2-0 on 57 minutes Gary Kenneth headed home Richards corner. Nothampton pulled a goal back and it was no surprise that it was Adebayo Akinfenwa who nodded in for the visitors. Oliver Norburn restored the two goal lead and wrapped up the points with 6 minutes remaining by nodding home substitute Lee Brown’s cross.

Rovers next game is away to Burton Albion next Saturday. Rovers moved up to 20th in League Two after Saturdays win.
