Young Rovers winger Shaquille Hunter is set to be given a chance to break into the Rover first team.

The 17 year old was used by Mark McGhee last pre-season and was expected to make an impact this season, but after picking up an injury he failed to break into the first team and saw the season out with Youth team.

Ward said to TIB: “Shaq wasn`t ready to join the senior group last season, but he`s a player that comes to me highly recommended by a number of people and will have the same opportunity as everyone else.

“He played a big part in the youth team success and I managed to see glimpses of him at times when I was able to watch any of those games.

“He`s got the ability to progress, without doubt, and now it is a case of him showing the desire to really push himself on. If he can do that then I`m sure we`ll really have a player on our hands.

“He has worked hard through the summer to get himself fit and ready to come back and join up with the senior group and it`s up to him now to give himself the best chance.”

Hunter has been scouted by several Premiership clubs in the past 18 months including Liverpool and Manchester City.
