McGhee ‘We Probably Owe An Apology To Gillingham’

Mark McGhee admitted after Good Fridays 2-2 draw with Gillingham that The Memorial Stadium pitch is an embarrassment.

Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler was also less than happy with the state of the pitch. McGhee said ‘The pitch is a huge handicap, but we can’t do anything about it.

‘We probably owe an apology to Gillingham asking them to come here and play on that pitch. It’s an embarrassment to us.

‘We’ve got plans to improve it and we’ll be digging it up in the summer so it should be better next season. Our groundsman was here until 1 o’clock in the morning working on it ahead of this game, so there’s nothing more we can do.’

Rovers plan to rip up The Memorial Stadium pitch and lay a new surface during the summer break.
