Bristol Rovers manager John Ward was forced in to starting young striker Mitch Harding as Rovers were dealt another blow when striker Matt Harrold was ruled out due to injury.

Harrolds injury means Rovers are with out nine first team players, but there was some good news when Alfie Santos was passed fit to play after being it was thought he was due to be out for six weeks. Both teams struggled to create any real opening in the first half, Parkin and Flynn had half chances for Exeter and Richard and Parkes shot wide for Rovers.

15 minutes in to the second half Exeter took the lead through ex Rovers defender Danny Coles who headed home Craig Woodmans corner. It took Rovers just 8 minutes to get back on level terms, Eliot Richard smashed home Ellis Harrison’s cross. With just 11 minutes to go Exeter took the lead again, Sam Parkin stooped to head in Arron Davies’ low cross to make it 2-1.

Rovers nearly pulled level with just minutes to go, but John Joe O’Tooles shot was cleared off the line by Danny Coles.

Next up for Rovers is a League cup first round tie against Championship side Watford on Tuesday night.
