John Ward made one change to the side bringing in Alfie Santos for Eliot Richards who picked up a slight knock in the 1-1 draw against Torquay United.

Rovers created the more chances in the first half half, but could not find the back of the net. O’Toole, Harrold and Lee Brown all had chances for Rovers in the first half, Rovers were made to pay for the missed chances in the second half when Rochdale scored two goals in four minutes.

First Scott Hogan flicked in Joe Rafferty’s cross to put Rochdale 1-0 up, then Jack O’Connell passed the ball to Cummins who fired past keeper Steve Mildenhall. Harrison, Smith and sub Eliot Richards all fired wide for Rovers as they looked to get back in to the game. The defeat saw rovers slip to 21st in League Two just one point above the relegation zone. Next up for Rovers is a home tie against Cheltenham Town on New Years Day.
Rochdale manager Keith Hill
‘Both sides wrestled quite well. The first goal is always really important – it can knock the energy out of the opposition and give you that little bit of extra energy.’
