Bristol Rovers went down 1-0 to relegation threatened Wrexham. A single goal from Jeff Whitley gave Wrexham the win which keeps alive their hopes of avoiding the drop to the Conference.

Trollope brought back Sammy Igoe and Captain Stuart Campbell, but there was still no Anthony or Green in the starting line up for The Gas.

Wrexham keeper Anthony Williams had to make the best save of the first half, diving to his right to keep out Lewis Haldane’s volley.

Haldane was behind most of Bristol Rovers’ best attacks, but they created few chances in a game which surely saw their last feint play-off hopes extinguished. The result leaves Wrexham in second last place with 38 points while Rovers sit in 11th place with 52 points.

With three minutes remaining, Whitley nodded home Shaun Pejic’s cross to spark joyous celebrations from his team-mates.
Paul Trollope
‘We will be looking closely at how the lads perform at Wycombe (on Tuesday) but they have been told there will need to be a considerable improvement,’ said Trollope. ‘This performance was unacceptable. Our technique failed us under the pressure Wrexham applied and there was no quality to our passing, crossing or shooting.

‘Expectations were high after two home wins. The result tells us that we are still short of where we want to be and may mean that some players are not here next season.

‘It was a huge opportunity missed but Wrexham thoroughly deserved their victory and we have a lot of thinking to do.’
