Rovers Denied Win

Bristol Rovers were left frustrated after Darlington scored a 90th minute equalizer to deny Rovers all three points. Lewis Haldane had scored his second goal of the season to give Rovers a deserved lead after dominating for most of the game.

Darlington keeper Sam Russell denied Richard Walker on two occasions in the opening period of the game as the Gas pilled on the pressure. Rickie Lambert looking for his first Gas goal came late in the first half with a 25 yard free kick.

Second half was much of the same with Rover on top, Steve Phillips did have to pull off a good save from Julian Joachim but that was a rare chance for the home team. Russell did well to deny Richard walker, But in the dying minutes Smith was first to react to Neil Wainwright’s cross and hammered a shot past Steve Phillips.

Three game unbeaten now for the Gas, all draws but there are signs of improvement.

‘We controlled the game in the first half, defended well and looked like we were all set for an away win and a performance to go with it,’ he said.

‘But right at the end, one or two people were in the wrong areas.

‘It feels like a defeat when you dominate a game like that when you deserve to win, but concede like that.’
