Darrell Clarke has secured his first summer signing, bringing in MK Dons midfielder Ed Upson on a free transfer.

Upson can play across the middle of the park, but most recently has played in a central holding role. Its great news for Gasheads as its a position Rovers have been lacking since Lee Mansell hung his boots up to work with the Development Squad, although he can play a more attacking role if required.

The 28-year-old has played over 300 games in his career so far with plenty of Championship experience with Millwall and Yeovil Town, where he has scored 27 times in his career to date.

Last season he made 45 appearances for MK Dons and scored 4 times. Upson picked up 14 yellow cards last season. He was offered a new deal with MK Dons but opted for a move to The Memorial Stadium instead and will officially join up with Darrell Clarke’s team on July 1st when his contract with MK Dons expires.

It’s nice for Rovers to get some business done early for a change!
