Bristol Rovers moved with in 6 points of 7th placed Wycombe last night, after beating play off contender Stockport County 2-1 at The Memorial Stadium.

Rovers started with the same side that beat Notts County
on the weekend, Elliott, Campbell, Sandell and Green all still missing, but Igoe made the bench along with Anthony.

Stockport started livley and made it clear they were here for three points. But on 15 minutes Michael Rose brought down striker Rickie Lambert in the area, the front man dusted himself off and powered home the penalty to make it 1-0 to The Gas.

On the touch line both dug outs were very animated, Jim Gannon still unhappy about the orginal fixture being postponed due to a water logged pitch, a decsion that was made by the ref i may add.

Back on the pitch Rovers went 2-0 up, Nicholson firing home on 61 minutes, after Craig Disley’s shot had been saved.

Stockport did pull one back, Rose forced the ball in direct from a corner to set up a nervous finish for the home team, but Rovers held out well.

Paul Trollope
‘The original postponement was made before Jim Gannon got to the ground and you couldn’t roll a ball across the pitch because it was so wet.

‘Conditions may have improved after the decision to postpone. But we have nothing to reproach ourselves over because we had a backlog of games at the time and wanted to play.

‘I’m delighted we have beaten a side who were in good form and, with another home game on Saturday, we have a chance to put ourselves back in the play-off race.’
