Darrell Clarke side suffered defeat on the opening day of the League One season.

Darrell Clarke started with a 3-5-2 formation starting summer signing from Plymouth Peter Hartley at the centre of defence along side Tom Lockyer and James Clarke. Rovers started the game brightly and after some good work by Rovers they took the lead through striker Matty Taylor who finished well from Chris Lines pass.

Rovers started the second half much like the first and looked a match for Scunthorpe, but just past the hour mark Dutch Striker van Veen fired home. The goal changed the game and although Rovers pushed to try and get back in front it was Scunthorpe who got a second from Josh Morris with nine minutes to go. And deep into injury time sub Wooton finished Rovers off to make it 3-1.

The score line was pretty harsh on Rovers, next up is a League Cup clash against Championship side Cardiff City at The Memorial stadium on Thursday night.
