Another excellent read

Hi, welcome to something for the weekend. WOW what a week we have just had. It would have been the perfect week if the League table was the other way around. They say it`s always best to start at the beginning so…
.
What a great win against Fleetwood. I don`t think anyone can honestly say they expected anything like that. Hoped for a win possibly, quietly confident maybe, but that emphatically. No. With the team at its bare bones they pulled out a great performance to secure three brilliant points. The only dampener from this particular result was the other teams around us picking up points again, but we can only win our own games and see what hand we get dealt come the end of the season.

Apparently Jim Paterson wasn`t fit after training Friday and Fabian Broghammer was a late drop out leaving us with 5 subs (which is more than enough really) and allowed young Ellis Harrison to make a start for The Gas, and by all accounts he had a cracking game and certainly impressed anyone who watched. Elliot Richards and Tom Hitchcock started up front and apparently linked well together despite perhaps being similar players. I have often criticised Eliot Richards for not working hard enough and looking knackered when he should be fit as a fiddle, but have always thought he had the ability. It`s how you make the most of it that counts and it sounds as if Eliot made the most of it in the Fleetwood game and turned in a great performance also as did everyone of the team. Hopefully the performance against Fleetwood along with the other week`s news will boost everyone around the club and help lift us out of our current lowly position.

And that news is Sainsbury`s were granted permission to build a supermarket on The Memorial Ground which opens the way for us to start work on the UWE Stadium project. Hopefully being able to push on with UWE and have our own purpose built ground will be the first step of a brighter future for the club. Now it seems all systems are go I am looking forward to finding out more information regarding the project and having some questions answered and how everything fits together. With my accounting head on, I am interested in the financing aspect and how the project will see the club debt free upon moving in and how and where revenue streams will go. I am sure other the coming months more information will become available and it should make interesting and excited reading. As close as we are, I wouldn`t blame anyone for being cagey or having a slight doubt that something will stop it after all the years and false dawns. It`s hard to believe this is really happening and I have to pinch myself to wonder if this is all real. Can`t wait to pick my seat and I am sure you can`t either. With this news it`s time for everyone connected to the club from the top down to the bottom to help us deliver a brighter future for the club and hopefully we can start by helping keep the club in the league.

The task of staying up starts again with (weather permitting) a home game against Exeter City; I am sure we are all buoyed by last week`s result and the stadium news, but we must be realistic and remember we still have a big job on our hands. We have a thin squad right now that needs bolstering and also a young one. I know there has been a clamour for some of the younger players to start and whilst they are bright and positive they still need some experience around them as we cannot rely on the youngsters to keep us up. Sometimes it`s easy to forget the age and/or relative inexperience of players such as Michael Smith, Lee Brown, Broghammer and not just players like Ellis Harrison, Tom Hitchcock, Shaquille Hunter etc. I hope we get David Clarkson fit soon as I think his calmness on the ball and the ability to make things happen will benefit the younger players around him. At the moment I wouldn`t mind seeing him in Centre-midfield again alongside John-Je O`Toole if we can keep him of course or pushed forward depending on what options we have available. Hopefully tomorrow`s game will be fine to go ahead as I don`t think we want another postponement clogging up our fixture list later on. The positive is that even if the worst thoughts of many were to happen and we go down, the UWE stadium is guaranteed to go ahead. This is the future of the club and hopefully a positive and fruitful one.
Whatever you are up to this weekend stay safe and have a good one. Up The Gas!
