A Week is A Long Time in Football

After a good run, confidence flooded throughout the team and we were so desperately unlucky on Tuesday night not to have to won at home to Notts County. They blocked with all their might and we might have had a bit more quality in the final third.

Bring on the bottom side, Newport County and our poor luck at home had to change, did n’t it. Yep, the result was a surprise, but not one that any of us envisaged before the kick-off. True Newport had a new manager and had won the Saturday before, but surely they would be no match for the mighty Gas at out home fortress, the Mem.

After an unfortunate own-goal the self belief came on strong and we equalised within 2 minutes with a wonder strike from Billy Bodin. I hope Darrell Clarke has signed him up to a long term contract. But that was as good as it got.

Gifting the opposition two further goals by “individual errors” means that we had a mountain to climb and we seemed desperately short of Sherpas! The fourth goal was the final humiliation and there was no coming back.

DC has built up an impressive away record with just one loss in 26 games. He must be a sharp cookie, but he cannot seem to turn around our abysmal home form. We have won once this season in the league an impressive home performance against Barnet. Gasheads feel that we are not told enough. We do not know when key players are injured, or his thinking behind leaving key players out.

I had a major beef with DC over his treatment of Mildenhall, but neither Chapman or Daniels have an unblemished record. So come on DC. Put crowd favourite Mildy back in the frame at Cambridge. He might graduate with Honours.

Chris Lines has also had an indifferent season. Him and Tom Parkes were dropped following the woeful home defeat to Pompey. Was this clever man management or did Clarke feel that they were senior pro’s who were not pulling their weight?

Matty Taylor again had the crowd on his back Saturday, but to my mind was no worse than Bodin or Easter. Harrison again did not impress when he came on and Blissett cannot buy a game. It was good to see Linesy get back on the pitch, but I thought Mansell had an excellent first half.

DC has acquired a reputation as a ‘Tinker-Man’. But the original, Claudio Ranieri has discovered great success at Leicester by playing the same team every week and not worrying what other teams will do, but unleashing Jamie Vardy on the opposition.
