The news that 6 professionals at the Mem will not be offered a new contract is not a major surprise. Jermaine Easter has showed some skillful touches and scored a few vital goals. But he has under achieved in his time at Rovers and I would have expected more goals from him. In recent weeks Mark McChrystal came back into the first team and was awesome in the 5-0 demolition of Northampton. After 4 years and 125 appearances the former club captain can hold his head high and there should be a queue of league one and two managers wanting to sign him.

Will Puddy is among those who will not be offered a new contract. This comes as no surprise after recent performances. Most suspect that Steve Mildenhall has played his last game so let’s hope that Joe Lumley gets off to a flyer at Walsall. As usual with loan signings, he comes highly recommended but is a work in progress.

We need a commanding keeper to inject some backbone into a defence that has leaked too many goals this term. The pairing of Tom Lockyer and Peter Hartley has not been as strong as we would have hoped for. Will the signing of Joe Partington help here? Most speak very highly of him. Let’s hope he is able to make the transition from non-league and that he has an injury free run.

With Ellis Harrison Billy Boden and Rory Gaffney finding the new in recent weeks we should have strikers a plenty. Matty Taylor has looked below par recently, but can turn the game with a goal from nowhere and I have been pleasantly surprised with what little I have seen of Luke James.

After thrashing Northampton we were hoping our away form would pick up at Fleetwood. Never can there have been 2 such contrasting games in such a short space of time. But for whatever reason we were never really in the game and a couple of defensive howlers sealed matters. True Fleetwood have been on a great run, but we could do with a quick about turn at Walsall.

DC has hinted that there may be more comings and goings before the end of the transfer window in a fortnights time. It should be an interesting time. Teams below us have now got games in hand so we need to start winning to avoid mid season mediocrity. Come on you Gas, come on you Blues!
