Like us, Yeovil have not had a great start to the season. The news that they only have 16 fit players, along with our much improved display against Birmingham on Tuesday night should make us optimistic ahead of Saturday’s kick off.

Paul Sturrock is a canny old Scotsman who is sure to be able to fire up his depleted squad and we should take nothing for granted. Only in recent years have Yeovil been a Football League side, so as with Forest Green last year, I personally I do not consider this to be a local derby, unlike if we were facing Bristol City or Plymouth. The bragging rights would be good though!

On Tuesday I was happy to see Matty Taylor come on, and immediatley pose a threat and he created the goal for Ellis Harrison. A true Marmite figure for Gas Supporters, Taylor sometimes looks slow and disinterested, but we would not have gained promotion without his goals. He had a point to prove and has earned the right to his first team spot.

I cannot figure what is going on with Nathan Blissett. Signed after he scored a cracking goal against us for Kidderminster her has showed flashes of quality, but again, opinion is divided. After several goals in pre-season, he has struggled to get a game. Why is this? Hopefully his goal for the reserves will mean either a starting berth or a first change sub-role. Darrel Clarke has persisted with Jermaine Easter as the main striker, but he has shown little by way of promise.

Lets hope recent injury casualties Mark McChrystal and Lee Mansell return soon. We have only lost by the odd goal or so (excluding the West Brom game) but McChrystal is a big loss and I am not sure that Tom Lockyer and James Clarke are adequate replacements.

Although we lost to Birmingham we saw several impressive performances. Daniel Leadbitter has electric pace and is growing in confidence. Ollie Clarke had a great game in midfield and Stuart Sinclair his usual energetic self. The stats showed we were a much more dynamic confident side, creating more chances than Birmingham, but unable to force an equaliser.

On Saturday we should abandon caution and go for the win. It will never be a better time to play Yeovil and it would be brilliant to come back up the M5 with 3 points. Come on you Gas, Come on the Blues!
