Bristol Rovers striker Rickie Lambert insists he is happy to stay at Bristol Rovers and is hoping to tie up a new contract soon.

Lambert ended up with 19 goals last season making him Rovers top goal scorer. The 26 year old has been attracting interest from Championship sides, but Lambert says he has heard nothing from any other club.

We had discussions and the club said they would go away and think about things,’ said Lambert to the Bristol Evening Post.

‘There’s no real rush because I’ve still got a contract for next season and I want to be here.

‘I’ve told the club I’m happy here and hopefully we can get something worked out before we come back for pre-season training.’

Lambert still has another year left on his current contract, but Rovers are keen to tie him to a longer contract sooner rather than later.

Hopefully get him signed on for another 2-3 years!

It’s nice to see decent strikers happy to stay at the club for once!

I see that as him wanting more money, if the club wanted to go away and think about it. I was thinking with Hughes they would make a great partnership, just hoping they are willing to spend that little bit extra to ensure he stays

lets hope that little bit extra isnt too much though, as it only encourages other players to want more. He is a player worth holding onto though

i think he is worth a little extra, we need to keep players like him at the club if we want to progress.

Agreed Homer, we are struggling with the current wage bill and that was after cup runs and promotion. With it likely that many fans won’t renew their ST’s we will be struggling again and a year on year loss is never a good thing for a club to contend with. If other players decide they are worth more we could end up losing a few good players and find it very hard to sign a new decent striker.

I would like to see him stay he is a great player, but only if he isn’t being too greedy.
