Bristol Rovers are back where we belong in the Football League.

Cheered on by over 30,000 fans Rovers needed extra time and penalties to secure an instant return to the football League. Rovers got off to a terrible start going 1-0 down after just two minutes, Nathan Arnold ran into the box and as the ball fail to John-Lewis he forced the ball over the line. Rovers then survived a scare as Will Puddy handled outside the area, but escaped with just a yellow card.

Rovers got back on level terms when Ellis Harrison lashed home Jake Gosling’s cross. Matty Taylor got booked for diving although there did seem to be some contact from the Grimsby keeper. The second half was a tense affair with both teams starting to look tired. Extra time was the same tired and tense as the game moved towards penalties.

Darrell Clarke introduced Steve Mildenhall to face the penalties. Chris Lines was first up and fired home. Matty Taylor and Lee Brown both fired home their kicks before the moment came that let Rovers take advantage, Jon-Paul Pittman fired his penalty over. It left Angelo Balanta to score his kick, then Lee Mansell stepped up and won it for Rovers.

We Are Going up, say We are Going Up!!
