Its the start of a series of articles to try and find out the Greatest Gas Team Of All Time. The keeper with the most votes will go into the starting line up, while second place will go on the bench.



Nigel Martyn
Nigel Martyn was with Bristol Rovers from 1987-1989 making 101 appearances, when he became the first million pound goalkeeper with his move to Crystal Palace. Martyn also played his part in Rovers winning the 3rd division Championship in 89/90. He went on to make 23 appearances for England.

Brian Parkin
Brian Parkin took over from Nigel Martyn in the 89/90 season and earned a Championship medal in his first season with the Gas. Brian made 241 appearances for Rovers between 1989 and 1995.

Tim Carter
Tim Carter made 47 appearances for Bristol Rovers and represented England at under 21 level. Carter was with Rovers from 1985 until 1987 when he lost his place to Nigel Martyn. He left Rovers to join Sunderland in 1987.

Ron Green
Ron Green was with Rovers from 1985 until 1986 making 56 appearances for the Gas. He also had a loan spell with Wimbledon in the old first division where he made four appearances for the dons.

Martin Thomas
Martin Thomas was with Rovers for six years between 1976-1981. Martin made 162 appearances for the gas and went on to play for Newcastle.

Jim Eadie
Jim Eadie was with Rovers from 1972 until 1976 making 183 appearances for the Gas. Jim ended his career just down the road at Bath.

Dick Sheppard
Dick Sheppard was a signing from West Brom and went on to make 151 appearances for Rovers between 1969/1974. Dick won promotion with the Gas in 1973 when Rovers ended up 2nd in the old third division.

Bernard Hall
Bernard Hall pulled on the Gas jersey 163 times between 1961 and 1966. Bernard Hall famously got injured on new years eve whilst playing for Rovers and was in a coma for 16 days as a result of his injuries. He gained the nickname ‘Keeper Courageous’.

Jesse Whatley
Jesse Whatley played for Rovers for 9 years between 1920 until 1929 and made a massive 372 appearances for Rovers.

Steve Phillips
After only Phillips first season he has already become a fans favourite, keeping a massive 29 clean sheets more than any other keeper in the Football League and picked up the best Keeper of League Two award. He also won the Vital Rovers Fans Player Of The Season award.
