Aaron Downes is hoping to secure a contract with Bristol Rovers for next season.

Downes who is on loan from League One side Chesterfield will be out of contract in the summer. The 26 year old has just returned from injury after making several impressive appearances for Rovers. ‘My contract at Chesterfield is up at the end of the season, so I’m out to impress the manager,’ said Downes to TIB

‘Hopefully, if I can do that between now and the end of the season, there might be something here for me.

‘I’ve only just come back from injury, so at the moment I’m just concentrating on playing.

‘But I’ve really enjoyed my time here. I like the manager, there’s a good set of lads and it seems like a friendly, family club.

‘It’s something that appeals to me and if there’s something here for me, then great. But we’ll see what happens at the end of the season.

‘The manager seems to have been happy with me so far, but I know I have to perform and show him, the board and the fans that I’m worth a contract.’

Downes who has made seven appearances for Rovers is one of fourteen players who is out of contract in the summer.
