New Bristol Rovers Manager Mark McGhee was pleased his game plan worked and Rovers came away with three points.

Talking to the official McGhee said ‘In a sense it went to plan, because we set up to make things difficult for Cheltenham, forcing them to hit long balls forward and not play through us

‘The discipline the boys showed to play that shape and the way I asked them to play was brilliant, but we hoped that along the way we might get a chance. We didn’t have many in the first half, though we did force a few corners so we weren’t without pressure on them and then, in the second half, we went on to score two goals which was the dream ticket.

But McGhee was quick to not take all the credit for the away win at Cheltenham Town, it was their first loss for ten games. ‘I said to the players afterwards that I had only been here two days, so I can’t really claim any credit for that win. It was about them wanting to work for each other, their own pride, wanting to play for this club and the supporters.

‘I hope I might have had an influence, but I can’t claim too much for what went on out there today. The boys went out and performed and they have to keep performing and I can add my bits to them.’

Rovers moved up to 17th in League Two after Saturday and are now nine points above the relegation zone.
