Bristol Rovers opened the new season with a defeat at home to Oxford United.

German Fabian Broghamer was given the green light to play and took his place on the bench a long with Eliot Richards who was back from his International duty with the Welsh Under 21’s side. Rovers were undone by two decent solo goals, Forster-Caskey fired the Oxford in front with a brilliant curling shot from the corner of the box after 21 minutes and Potter made it two with a low finish after cutting in from the left and firing home on 32 minutes.

McGhee reacted by bringing on Broghammer and Richards early in the second half and although Rovers did improve in the second half the never really troubled former Rovers keeper Ryan Clarke. Rovers next travel to Barnet on Tuesday night in the hope of kick starting their season.
