Sean Rigg scored his first goal of the season to keep alive Rovers hopes of making it into the League Two play offs.

Rigg came on as a 72nd minute sub and with in four minutes the young striker made his impact, Rigg slipped behind Macclesfield’s static defence to volley home with 14 minutes remaining.

Macclesfield had the better chances in the first half but could not find the back of the net.

In the 13th minute, John Miles hit a drive wide, before John Murphy headed over the bar in the 21st minute.

The best chance fell to Matty McNeil, who planted a free header straight at Steve Phillips from the six-yard line.

Rovers also came close when former Macclesfield striker Rickie Lambert forced a finger-tip save from Tommy Lee with a 25-yard drive.

The Gas were unlucky not to take the lead after the break when midfielder Joe Jacobson hit the upright with a 25-yard drive.

Rovers are now just one point outside the play offs, with only two games left.
